Alternative Apparel's "The Betty" hat comes in chic herringbone and plaid patterns, and the shape is actually flattering (like a really elegant baseball cap). I've never looked good in hats, but I think this one might actually be perfect to wear on a rainy day. Plus, it's on sale right now for only $12. I'm also contemplating purchasing the Madonna Slouch Pocket Tee ($28) with a great cut that reminds me of Alexander Wang's much more expensive version. I just purchased this silver mesh and satin top by Supersocial for under $100 on Pixie Market's website. The snaps and the loose racerback fit make it look extremely comfortable, and I love that the silver mesh is incredibly delicate like really diaphanous chainmail.

It finally feels like summer in the city, and for the first time I've been able to wear 7 summer dresses in a row. However, a common problem that I encounter with summer dresses and skirts (especially white ones) is that the fabric they are constructed from is often incredibly sheer. Slips work, but nice slips are pretty expensive and cheap ones are totally see-through. pale-colored Cycle Shorts from American Apparel are perfect for solving my problem. They are incredibly comfortable, cost only $20, and are short enough for wearing underneath minis. Plus, I don't have to worry about pulling a Marilyn-Monroe-in-The-Seven-Year-Itch when I walk over a subway grate.

Whenever I walk around the city on a blazingly hot summer day, I inevitably end up with melted foundation and smudged mascara running down my face. As soon as I get home I wash my face immediately, but somehow the mascara smears and foundation never fully come off with soap and water. A cotton ball soaked in Clarins Toning Lotion with iris and aloe removes any remnants of the day in a single swipe. It also tightens pores (without the use of alcohol) and smells vaguely of lilies (kind of like those huge dazzling floral arrangements at expensive upper east side restaurants like Payard). This unique collection of necklaces (all under $200) Manu by Lauren Manoogian is exactly what I've been been looking for this summer. They are playful, geometric, and light (fashioned from paperclips and vinyl tape). The unexpected yet vibrant Pinata-esque color combinations like camel, turquoise, and pistachio, or coral, indigo, and mustard will look fantastic against gauzy white dresses.

I just got back from a three-day-weekend at the lake, and surprisingly my duffel bag is much lighter than usual. I have a tendency to over-pack (especially to bring too many beauty products), so for this recent trip I decided that instead of toting around full-sized versions of my favorite products from home, instead I would bring a good selection of travel minis. Now, in the past the travel minis that I've seen at Duane Reade and CVS have been pretty lame (i.e. tiny bottles of Scope and Johnson and Johnson shampoo). However, I've found a few good sources for high-end travel minis that have made all the difference in keeping me glamorous when I travel. Near the register at Sephora you can find tiny Fekkai glossing sprays, Rosebud Salve, and other goodies. At L'Occitane you can pick up tubes of peach blossom lip balm and a tiny tin of Bergamot Tea solid perfume that smells exactly like fresh iced tea with mint , and at Pasteur Pharmacy on 34th between Madison and Park you can get teensy bottles of Kerastase and Bumble & Bumble. Showering three times a day in the summer is not unusual. Though I'm addicted to my Ahava sunblock, it seems to attract dirt for some reason. When I come home at the end of a long day I'll often find a black streak of dirt on my shin or my forearm that definitely wasn't there before I left the house. Because I'm showering so often, I'm getting really bored of my old standby shower gels that are fine for the winter but feel too heavy and creamy for the summer. I've recently gotten really into the German brand dusch das which makes the BEST shower gels ever. Not only is the packaging fantastic, they even have summer-themed body washes with crazy names like "Sunshine Reggae Shower Gel," "Evening Sun Shower Gel," and "Agua and Sol."
