I Came, I Saw, I Purchased

The Uptown Scene:
Fashion's Night Out on the Upper East could best be categorized as a carnival atmosphere of hordes of ladies in cocktail attire craning their necks to catch a glimpse of Mary Kate & Ashley, Zac Posen (looking like a young Bacchus with a wreath on his head), and Victoria Beckham. Bergdorf Goodman was literally Bedlam, but all the inmates were wearing pearls and Lily Pulitzer. I got seriously claustrophobic and retreated to the beauty floor that was a Zen-like retreat from mass hysteria. Saks and Bendel's were manageable with less paparazzo, cranked up music, and champagne (which I couldn't seem to locate). At Saks I purchased the UV Protecting Fluid from my favorite La Mer Counter (it works as a sunscreen and a primer) and sampled the new concealer that covered like a dream but was (alas) too dark for my paper-white skin. Next, I checked out the William Rast line (JT's brainchild) and was pleasantly surprised. The jeans feel incredibly soft and there was a black leather jacket with red flannel and fleece that was super-chic. This French woman was trying it on and she looked so cool in it that I immediately wanted to copy her. Next up was Bendel's and trying on shimmery baubles. A clear resin bangle with navy sequins suspended in it caught my eye (it looked like the iridescent gills of a Tropical fish). As I headed back downtown in a taxi, I passed Patrick Robinson walking over to the Gap flagship and Tiffany's "blue carpet" strewn with white flowers and complete with a matching coffee truck (what a nice idea).

The Downtown Scene:
After stopping in quickly at The Pretty Reckless concert off Perry and Bleecker (FYI Taylor Momsen was looking amaazing in a white men's shirt, long rocker-ish platinum hair extensions, and black thigh highs held up by garters), I popped into Jeffrey at 8. Ladies were getting their portrait sketched and buying Louboutins in excess. Next on the list was a tiny Aussie boutique Elizabeth Charles that was perfect for decompressing from all the excitement. I decompressed so much that I bought a white Grecian-style tunic dress with gold ribbon. A quick stop for tacos at Los Dados and then Helmut Lang (all the models congregated there), DVF, and Catherine Malandrino, where I saw Catherine in an ornately studded black leather jacket and scooped up a sample of peach bath gel from the Caudalie spa. I finished the night with a jaunt down Bleecker where I ran straight into the handsome Nacho Figueras who is a lot taller and slimmer in person. I was told that Blake Lively and Anna Wintour were in the immediate vicinity but didn't see either of them. While walking home in a light rain I passed an exhausted looking Veronica Webb. I sympathized with her, since by that time my feet were starting to feel like lead. I can't wait to do this whole thing again next week for the Fashion Crawl, but next time I'll wear flats.
