Chocolates are de rigueur on Valentine's Day, but if you want to break away from the traditional Conversation Hearts and drugstore bonbons, then check out Debauve and Gallais. A bit more under the radar than La Maison du Chocolat, this tiny jewel-box of a store has the most delicious and exquisitely packaged chocolates. Originally the official chocolatier to the French court, the shop's specialty are Pistoles (delicate chocolate coins that were created for Marie Antoinette to disguise the taste of medicines). For Valentine's day the Pistoles are decorated with a pretty design and packaged in a golden box. Other specialties include Aiguillettes (candied lemon and ginger peels) in a stunning feminine box and truffles bedecked with roses.
